Felony DUI charge comes after crash that killed a motorcyclist

A South Carolina man from Orangeburg was charged with felony DUI after an accident that left one other person dead. The accident happened on March 30 when the man's Chrysler ran into a Kawasaki off-road motorcycle near the motorcycle driver's home. The driver of the car was charged on March 31, and bond was set at $75,000.

The 36-year-old motorcycle driver died from internal injuries and massive blunt force trauma, according to a chief deputy coroner. The driver of the Chrysler car was taken to a local hospital but suffered no injuries from the collision, according to investigators. A report states that he was checked by medical personnel at the hospital, however, because he was allegedly attacked shortly after the crash.

As police further investigated the incident, they met multiple relatives of the motorcycle driver. Those relatives reportedly felt that the crash was intentional.

The charge against the driver of the car in this incident is felony driving under the influence involving death, and if he is convicted, the man could find himself faced with jail time, fines and the suspension of his drivers license. The man may wish to use the services an attorney with experience in dealing with drunk driving charges. A defense lawyer could make an attempt to challenge police procedures during a stop, lack of evidence or inaccurate blood alcohol testing. Fighting DUI charges could result in the reduction or even dismissal of charges, which could reduce the damage that a DUI conviction can cause.
