Colts owner divides property amicably in confidential divorce

Today, in South Carolina, marriage is not necessarily a lifetime commitment. Not all couples stay close and although mediation is possible, sometimes the relationship is beyond repair. In these cases, divorce is a sensible and often healthy option. That certainly seems to be the case for the billionaire owner of Indianapolis Colts and his wife, who have described their breakup as the right decision.

Driver facing felony charges in South Carolina crash

A 27-year-old man allegedly caused a crash on May 23 that killed a 24-year-old female on Highway 378 in Marion. According to police, the man was driving west on the highway when his vehicle collided head-on with a Mustang being driven by the woman around 1 a.m. The woman died at the scene while a passenger in the Mustang was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center for treatment of what were called serious injuries.

Father arrested for child custody interference

When parents separate, the primary dispute between them is often who will get custody of their children. For some, a 50-50 split is workable and reasonable, but that doesn't suit everyone. In South Carolina, child custody laws aim to ensure custody agreements are in the best interests of the child. However, when one or the other parent disagrees with the decision, it can lead to legal battles, or even rash actions such as abduction.

Driver faces DUI charge after car wash crash

South Carolina police say that a 29-year-old man was intoxicated when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a car wash during the early hours of May 11. The Gray Court resident is facing drunk driving charges due to the alleged results of a blood alcohol test conducted while he was receiving medical treatment. The incident took place at approximately 2:45 a.m. in Travelers Rest.

Man sentenced to 8 years for 2012 DUI

South Carolina motorists who find themselves facing DUI charges may be interested in knowing the outcome of a felony drunk driving case involving an Anderson man. News sources say that on May 7, the 43-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to drunk driving charges stemming from a chase and subsequent collision that happened in August 2012. In addition, his driver's license will be suspended for three years once he is released from prison. Sources did not indicate if the man was represented by counsel in court.

Adoptive parents await visas to bring their children home

In South Carolina and, indeed, across the United States, there are many couples who would like children, but are unable to have their own. Others may have children already, but want to expand their families, or simply help a child in need. Whatever the motive, many parents choose to adopt. The adoption process is not always straightforward, however, particularly for families who take on an international child.

Singer accused of hiding income in child support battle

Regardless of their parents’ overall wealth, every child is entitled to adequate financial support. Determining child support obligations can be a complicated process, particularly if the parents are on bad terms. However, South Carolina law seeks to reach arrangements that are in the best interests of the child, while remaining affordable for the parents. Nevertheless, subsequent disputes about the payments are not uncommon.
