South Carolina man crashes into gas station

Law enforcement officials from the Rock Hill Police Department reported that a 32-year-old Chester man crashed his car into a gas station on Oct. 5. According to police, the collision happened around 9:25 a.m. When officials arrived, they could reportedly smell alcohol on the man who was said to be fading in and out of consciousness.

The accident occurred at the Exxon gas station located at the corner of Cherry Road and Oakland Avenue. The man, who had been driving a Ford Explorer, allegedly crashed into the building and subsequently caused an estimated $20,000 in property damage.

Following the wreck, the man was transported to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment. According to medical personnel, testing performed there revealed the man's blood alcohol content level was .11 percent. The man reportedly also had cocaine and THC in his system. Following his release from the hospital, police took him into custody and transported him to the Rock Hill city jail. His bond was set at $1,000, and he remains in custody.

When a person is suspected of having driven while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and they are taken to the hospital due to injuries suffered in the accident, medical personnel will often test the person's blood for the presence of suspected substances. Law enforcement then use this information in order to decide on charges. When people are facing drunk driving violations, they may wish to speak to a criminal defense attorney who takes such cases. A defense attorney may be able to review the reports associated with the case and possibly negotiate with the prosecuting attorney or move to trial.
