South Carolina teen facing felony DUI charge following accident

A Florence teen is facing felony charges of driving under the influence following a fatal car crash. A passenger in the other car was killed in the accident. The teen was taken into custody by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and was charged with one count of felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury and one count of felony driving under the influence with death.

According to reports, it is not clear whether the teen has an attorney. He may choose to find a criminal defense attorney who has experience in DUI defense to assist him with his case. The charges that he faces are serious and could have life-altering consequences if he is convicted.

A felony conviction stays on a person's record and may be a barrier to future employment and other opportunities. The teen may be facing jail time, fines and restitution payments, the loss of his driver's license and a lengthy probation period. Since he is so young, these consequences may have a serious impact on his entire future.

An attorney may be able to help him find the best course of action to minimize the damage done to his life. Depending on the facts of the case, an attorney might be able to help him decide if a plea deal with the prosecution is his best option. Prosecutors may offer a plea bargain to speed up the course of the trial. In some cases, they may be open to negotiation with the defendant and his attorney. If a settlement cannot be reached and the case does go to trial, an attorney may be able to argue for leniency due to the defendant's age.
