Woman shows up at school intoxicated

A 39-year old woman from South Carolina was taken into custody after allegedly driving while intoxicated and nearly crashing into another vehicle when she went to pick up her child from Silver Lakes Elementary School. The mother of three is facing drunk driving charges after failing three field sobriety tests. The incident took place on the afternoon of Sept. 16. According to police, the woman was pulled over after an officer observed her run over the plastic lane markers in the pickup line at the school.

Study shows trends in high school students' binge drinking habits

South Carolina parents may be interested to learn that studies are showing that high school seniors are engaging in extreme binging, which involves ingesting as many as 10 to 15 drinks during one session. In a study by a research assistant professor at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, it was reported that one in five seniors admitted to engaging in binge drinking.

Man faces felony DUI charges in fatal South Carolina accident

Orangeburg County was the scene of a fatal accident involving two people who were hit while operating motorcycles. At about 7 p.m. on Sept. 2, a 2009 Saturn was traveling south on Route 21 near Wire Road, when the driver presumably crossed the center line of Route 21 and hit two motorcycles operated by a 43-year-old Orangeburg man and a 50-year-old Columbia woman. The bodies of the two riders were identified by the pastor of a Columbia church.

21-year-old faces two counts of drinking and driving

A Columbia, South Carolina, man faced charges of drinking and driving after two people died in a fatal accident on Sept. 2. The man was held in custody for two drunk driving charges and one count of driving on a suspended license; bond was set at a total of $31,270.
