Father's Day text encourages parents to pay child support

Across the United States, thousands of dollars of child support go unpaid each month and the situation is no different in South Carolina. As the debts increase, several states are resorting to more and more drastic measures to encourage parents to pay the child support that they owe. However, these methods are not foolproof, nor are they always popular with their targets.

In Pennsylvania, several fathers have been voicing their displeasure at a text message that recently was received by them. The message in question was targeted at fathers who were behind on their child support obligations. However, some of the men that received it claim they are up-to-date. The message urged them to make paying their child support part of their Father's Day celebration.

One father felt that the message suggested fathers were only required for their money. Another claimed that he found the message offensive as it implied he was a deadbeat dad. However, the director of the Domestic Relations Agency in York County, which was responsible for the text, has asserted that the message was not intended to cause offense. She also pointed out that women would be receiving a similar text come Mother's Day.

This measure may have taken place in another state, but the underlying message here applies just as surely to parents in South Carolina. States are starting to take decisive action to combat delinquent child support payments, so it is important to keep on top of them. If you are struggling with your payments or you feel you are not receiving enough, you may be able to renegotiate the amount. An attorney can help you state your case and pursue a fairer arrangement.
