4 cars damaged in South Carolina accident

A woman was charged with DUI after crashing a 2002 Lincoln at Socastee Auto Sales during the evening hours of July 24. The crash reportedly damaged four cars in the lot and caused the Lincoln to catch on fire. According to a reporter present at the scene of the accident, the back of one of the cars had been completely destroyed.

Police say that the owner of the vehicle was a passenger in the car at the time of the accident. Both the driver and the passenger reportedly left the scene of the crash and were walking down a road when they were found by troopers. The driver of the vehicle reportedly took a field sobriety test before being put into an ambulance and transported to an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The owner of the shop believed that excessive speed may have played a role in the incident. There was no word as to where the driver was taken for processing, if she was allowed to make bail or when her next court appearance may be.

In a DUI case, a driver may face several different penalties such as jail time, a license suspension or a fine. The driver may also be responsible for paying restitution if property damage is caused in an accident. In some cases, it might be possible for a driver to get probation or supervised release over jail time.

A DUI defense attorney may have several options when it comes to building a defense strategy. He or she may be able to argue that the driver was looking for help instead of fleeing the scene. In the event of a plea bargain, the woman may be able to have certain charges dropped or reduced in exchange for her guilty plea to others.
