South Carolina firefighter falls behind with child support

Children in separated families deserve the same support and care that children in other families receive. However, it is not always easy for a single parent to provide this. The child support system aims to ensure that children still receive the financial support they need regardless of their family arrangement. Unfortunately, these payments are not always made on time, if at all, and this can be of serious detriment to the child in question.

One father in Florence, South Carolina, has allegedly handed himself in to the Family Court in connection with unpaid child support. According to court documents, he was behind on payments by six months. As a result, he was arrested and held in custody at the County Detention Center.

The country singer and full-time firefighter has three children. His explanation for the delinquent payments, which he allegedly presented as a handwritten statement, was that his work was commission-based. As a result, he says it is difficult to keep up with the required payments.

Although it is a difficult situation to be in, it is not one that should be ignored or fled from. If you are struggling to keep up with your child support obligations, all is not lost. You may be able to negotiate a modification to the amount you are expected to pay, or it may be possible to arrange a payment plan to allow you to begin clearing your child support debts.

Whatever you decide to do, an attorney can be extremely helpful. He or she may be able to advise you on your options and help you decide on the best course of action to take. In this way, you can work toward a fairer arrangement that is in the best interests of you as well as your child.
