Motorcycle riders benefit from the latest safety innovations

During the spring and summer months, motorcycle riders are much in evidence on South Carolina highways and byways, and you may be one of them.

Because of your vulnerability while on a motorcycle, safety is always a primary consideration. Here are six of the most recent safety innovations to consider:

Airbags you can wear

Forward-thinking inventors have created vests and jackets for motorcyclists that have built-in sensors. In the event of a crash, the impact will trigger the sensors, causing an airbag to deploy that will protect the rider’s chest in addition to vital organs.

Newest helmets

Technology extends to the latest designs in motorcycle helmets. They are now available with built-in GPS systems and cameras that show the view in back of the rider. The cameras also help to reduce blind spots.

Well-connected gloves

In 2016, Bluetooth-connected gloves came out. By simply touching certain parts of your glove, you can manage both your smartphone and your GPS capabilities. This, however, should not be done if the motorcycle is in motion.

Controlling stability

Motorcycle accidents often happen when the rider executes a turn, either by accelerating or braking too quickly. Some motorcycles now feature stability control systems, which can analyze the lean angle plus traction control to ensure that the proper amount of braking or power is employed.

Using LEDs

If you have an older motorcycle with traditional lights, you may want to consider LED replacements. LED lighting enhances rider safety by providing greater visibility. You will also have a clearer view, especially during less than favorable weather conditions.

Going for three-wheelers

The average age of motorcycle riders has been steadily increasing. An attorney experienced with assisting motorcyclists who have had devastating injuries will tell you that three-wheeled motorcycles are gaining popularity among senior riders. Older people are looking for the greater stability and balance three-wheeled vehicles provide. Like their younger counterparts, they want to stay out of the hospital, and these new motorcycles offer an added layer of safety to any ride.
