Police charged a local couple in Myrtle Beach with child neglect for towing their baby girl in a bicycle trailer attached to a moped. The weather was rainy and the city was subject to a weather advisory due to Tropical Storm Ana. The couple told police that the person who sold them the bicycle trailer said that it could be used with a moped. They had buckled the baby into the trailer, and they did not know that towing the baby was against the law.

Police reported a three quarter length rip in the strap connecting the moped to the trailer. Officers placed the couple in a local detention center and soon released them after each provided a $5,000 bond. The grandmother of the baby received emergency child custody after passing inspection with the Department of Social Services (DSS).

If you have lost custody of your child, it is important to seek help immediately. DSS may remove a child from his or her home if it feels that the parent(s) has inflicted physical or mental harm, has neglected or abandoned the child, or does not cater to the child's basic needs. However, DSS is comprised of people, and people make mistakes. If you feel that the accusations made against you are not well justified, then there are experienced lawyers who can help. p.

The process is not always easy, especially because emotions are involved. You can expect to have an initial consultation with your lawyer in which you explain your situation and the evidence against you. You can expect your lawyer to fight for your parental rights and make sound justifications in your favor. DSS will evaluate all claims and evidence, and your legal representative will be with you every step of the way.
